No climate bonus for those who purchase or order a climate bonus car after November 8, 2022
On November 7, the government decided to abolish the climate bonus – i.e., the bonus part of the bonus/malus system. To be eligible for the climate bonus, the car must be purchased or ordered no later than Tuesday, November 8, 2022. To receive the climate bonus, the car must also comply with the rules at the time of payment, which is six months after the car has been registered in the road traffic register. From January 1, 2023, only cars that emit a maximum of 30 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer or cars powered by vehicle gas will be eligible for the climate bonus. The maximum bonus for cars put into service before the end of the year is SEK 70,000, and for those put into service after that date, SEK 50,000. The maximum bonus requires that the car be an electric car. Anyone who has purchased or ordered such a car must also be able to show the Swedish Transport Agency that the purchase or order was made no later than November 8. If the car is ordered on November 9, 2022 or later, the climate bonus will be SEK 0 regardless of when it is put into service.
